First edition.  xii, 158pp, with colour and black and white plate illustrations and further drawings and diagrams etc in text.  Red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine.  8vo. Cloth a little pushed and rubbed and corners and spine ends.  Upper text block edge dust dulled.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original matte dust wrapper: worn; marked; chipped, rubbed and scuffed on edges and folds.

Based on Hartridge's Christmas Lectures at the Royal Institution, an introduction to the world of light and colours, looking at the colours of the sky and the sea, the aurora, planets and birds etc, and the scientific theory behind them.
