First edition, first impression. xiv, 378pp, with coloured maps on endpapers. Black publisher's cloth-covered boards, gilt-stamped lettering on the spine. 8vo. Cloth is a little worn and mildly marked, gently rounded at corners and spine ends. Text block edges and endpapers a little toned, else internally neat, clean and tight. Slightly musty, unfortunately.
Wilkins was a British journalist known for his books on treasure hunting and his theories regarding Atlantis. His interests also included piracy and in his volume on Captain Kidd he claims to have uncovered evidence to indicate that Kidd was unjustly convicted for piracy and murder. He also claims to have uncovered plans that may lead to Kidd's hidden treasure, including Kidd's original charts.
