84pp stapled booklet in laminated light card covers.  8vo.  Card covers heavily rubbed at edges, with lamination peeling in places, heavily toned around edges, faded, staples rusting.  Gift inscription inked on first leaf, with toning on page edges throughout.  Slightly musty.

Biographical recollections of Mary Juliana Pyne (1841-1927) a nurse and graduate of the pioneering Florence Nightingale Training School for Nurses, compiled by her great niece, the noted educationalist Alicia M Percival.  A strong local character, her life story casts an intimate view of an ordinary working life in the latter part of the 19th century.  And her correspondence with Florence Nightingale reveals throws a surprisingly different light on that redoubtable lady.
