Valery Larbaud (1881-1957) was a French award-winning writer and poet. His novel Fermina Marquez is considered a minor classic of French literature and is perhaps his best known work. He was also a linguist, translating and helping to popularise in France writers such as Walt Whitman, James Joyce, Coleridge and Samuel Butler.
