596pp plus publisher's adverts at rear. Tissue-guarded colour plate frontis, 12 further colour plate illustrations and hundreds of b/w illustrations in text. Brown pictorial cloth boards with beveled edges, bearing gilding and illustrations to spine. Teg (tarnished). Cloth a little rubbed at edges, slight fraying at head and heel of spine. Internally clean and crisp barring light spotting to early and last few pages. The 7th edition, according to the preface, is much enlarged from earlier editions and takes into account latest discoveries in zoology.
