226pp. With illuminated and ornamental titles pages against each section of the poem and 68 further illustrations from original drawings by Sir John Tenniel engraved on wood by the Brothers Dalziel. The five ornamental title pages of Persian design are by T Sulman engraved on wood by H N Woods. Lavishly decorated and illustrated boards and spine, bevelled edges, all text block edges gilded. 8vo. Spine somewhat faded, a little rubbed at corners, crushed at spine tips. Occasional spotting on front endpapers, some tanning to rear endpapers, else lovely clean, bright and tight internally. Super handsome volume. Lalla Rookh, four narrative poems, forms an Oriental romance. Written by Irish poet Thomas Moore and first published in 1817, the title comes from the heroine of the story arch, the daughter of the 17th-century Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb.
