vi [4 ]386pp. Double title page (one dated 1840, the other 1841). Numerous line drawings throughout, with essays on stereotypical English characters by various authors, including Paul Prendergast, William Thackeray, Mrs Gore, Douglas Jerrold and Nimrod. Red buckram boards (rubbed, a little chipped and, faded at edges and spine, grazed at spine base, a bit grubby). Internally neat and clean, one signature loose. This is a scarce volume - there was also a later companion volume which is somewhat easier to find. 8vo
