254pp. Buckram boards with illustration pasted in, silver titles. Illustrated endpapers. Full colour frontispiece and five further colour, full page illustrations and numerous other vignettes and line drawings in text, all by Esther Friend. Boards a little worn, rubbed and bumped at corners, fraying at spine tips. Previous owner's inscription on half title page, in childish hand. A little spotting and fingering internally, one page has very short tear. Handsome vintage volume of this children's classic first published in serial form in the late 19th century. Issued as part of Rand McNally's Windermere Series, its timing was likely chosen to co-incide with the release of the 1940 Disney film - Disney's second animated feature film. 8vo
