224pp including 4 full page line drawing illustrations by Sylvia Salisbury. Grey cloth-covered boards with decorative patterning. Internally neat, clean and tight, a hint of toning to endpapers. In its original dust jacket (chapped at edges, with portions of spine absent, detaching, now protected in a mylar wrapper which holds it firm). A little gem of a novel, beautifully crafted and finely written, set in Fife, Scotland. A sweet, little vintage volume. Ruby Ferguson was a popular writer of the first part of the 20th century, best known for her children's pony stories featuring Jill. But this novel is intended for an adult audience and demonstrates more profoundly her talent as a writer and story teller.
