[1741]. Volume 2 only. [iv], 279-376, [2], 22, [viii]. 23-70, xxxviii. Numerous woodcut engravings throughout text. Three quarters bound in leather over marbled card boards, five panelled spine with four raised bands and gilt lettering. The title assigned on the spine to this volume is 'History of Pontefract'. Possibly a subsequent binding. (Boards rubbed on edges and spine joints, rounded at corners with gentle wear all over). Internally some mild toning and occasional spotting. Binding strong. Gent's Historia Compendiosa Anglicana was published by the author in 1741 in two volumes. The Appendix bears a publication date on 1739. In practice the comprehensive history of England was contained in Volume One; this second volume contains the conclusion of Gent's Historia Compendiosa Romana, together with The Life and Death of Robert of Knaresborough, An English translation from the original Greek of Bion of Smyra, A Comprehensive Account of the Town of Pontefract, Reflections on the Death of Charles Howard, and Similarly on the death of Queen Caroline, a Review of the Churches in York and various other incidentals such as the current state of Russia and on the discovery and islands of America. Scarce.
