Falconer, an abrasive character, was a physician at the Bath Spas in the latter part of the 18th century and a strong advocate of their medicinal and restorative powers. A frequent contributor to scientific journals and learned societies, his writings strayed well beyond his professional interests in spa waters but Dissertation on the effect of the Bath Waters and their use in the treatment of various conditions remained his major work.
