xii, 260, [iv]. Quarter bound in leather over marbled boards, gilt decoration and lettering to spine, black leather spine label. Leather spine rubbed at edges and on spine joints, card covers rubbed at edges, a little scuffed around corners. Text block edges speckled. Double title paged, engraved illustrations to frontispiece, vignette on title page. Internally neat, tidy and clean barring a previous owner's name on endpaper and another on the first title page, where there is also a stamp which partially obscures the title. Priced catalogue for Walker's British Classics series at rear. This is valuable in that it gives a priced catalogue of the first collection of titles published in Walker's notable series. Based on the principles and format of Elzevir's Continental editions, Walker's 'British Classics' aimed 'to form a complete library of standard English literature. Titles in this series, including this one, are now hard to find.
