iv, 620 [6] pages, numerous full page engraved illustrations, 12 fold out songs with lyrics and music. Quarter bound in calfskin leather over card covered boards, five raised bands to spine, (heavily worn all round, cracked and chipped away at edges, corner leather eroded and spine leather dry and cracked at joints and spine tips, softened and scuffed at corners, back board detached). Internally, previous owner's name on front endpaper, in copperplate hand (reads Anne Skevington, No. 7, Yeaverly), pages toned, some with small chips and creases at edges, some spotting, some fold outs have been mis-folded upon return, a few strained gutters. Generally clean and binding holding firm. Volume XXVIII of the Lady's Magazine, comprising all 12 monthly issues published in 1797. Each issue contains a selection of articles regarding history and world events, customs and opinions, political reflections, foreign news, home news, serialised novels and tales, letters and correspondence and poetical essays. Each issue contains at least one song with music and lyrics, a number of them attributing Handel as the composer. Other articles which feature in this bound volume include 'Description of the Town of Chepstow'; Historical Account of the Silk Worm'; 'On Female Talents'; Derwent Priory - A Novel'; Biographical Anecdotes of the Late Mrs Pope'; An Account of Powis Castle'; 'New Fashions in Paris'; 'Account of the Ceremonial of the Marriage of the Princess Royal'; 'Characters of the Archduke Charles and General Bonaparte'; 'Dutch Method of Employing Dogs'; Account of Buckden Palace'; 'Account of Chatsworth House'; Original Letter from the Earl of Shrewsbury to Queen Mary'; On the Neglecto of Genius ; etc. Does not have the fashion plates present in some editions.
