270pp, magnificently illustrated throughout with one black and white engraved frontispiece plate per part and numerous other vignettes in text. Pale green cloth-covered boards with gilt design and text on spine and front. All edges gilt. Rubbed and bumped all over. Spine cover cloth torn at head and heel. Corners rounded, wear on boards. Gutter strained between title page spread; but volume still tight, baring one loose leaf. Mild spotting throughout, worse on prelim pages. Dozens of illustrations carried out by eighteen artists including Maclise, Stansfield, Frost, Paton, Topham and Meadows. Engraved by nine engravers including Daliziel, E and Bastin. 8vo
