Ten mid 19th century booklets and Chapbooks, all relating to Harrogate and its more famous inhabitants, bound together in one volume. Quarter bound in brown calf's leather over marbled boards. (Boards lightly worn, a little rubbed and rounded at corners, with large scuff in marbling ob verso). Gilt rules and decoration, titled 'Pamphlets' on spine. Marks and scarring on endpapers, else internally neat, bright and fresh. There is a manuscript contents list, in a copperplate hand, on what would have been a blank page. The 10 titles are: 1. The Life and Trials of Eugene Aram, for the Murder of Daniel Clark, of Knaresborough, who was Convicted at York Assizes, Aug. 5th 1759. to which are added the Remarkable Defence He Made on His Trial, his own Account of Himself Written After his Condemnation, with the Apology which he Left in his Cell, for the Attempt He Made on his Own Life, with Notes by Norrison Scatcherd, also, The Dream of Eugene Aram, A Poem by Thomas Hood, New Edition, William Parr Printer and Publisher, Knaresborough 1853. 2. 'Gleanings' After Eugene Aram, at Knaresborough, In Yorkshire, and Lynn, in Norfolk, Unexpectedly Gathered since the Publication of his Memoirs by Norrison Scratcherd, Parr, Printer and Publisher, Knaresborough, 1860. 3. (With an engraved frontispiece) The Life and Death of Mother Shipton, with the Whole of her Remarkable Prophecies, Newly Collected, and Historically Explained, Strangely Preserved Amongst Other Writings Belonging to an Old Monastery in Yorkshire, New Edition, William Parr Printer and Publisher, Knaresborough, 1864. 4.
