38pp plus three fold-out plans of York Castle buildings and grounds. In a later binding of green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and call number to spine. Very gentle rubbed at edges. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring some very faint, occasional spotting. Signs of label removal on front paste down. An account of the state of the gaol at York Castle, triggered by the enactment of the New Prison Act, with plans for improvements to make the prison compatible with the new law (which, inter alia, prescribed that female prisoners shall 'in all cases be attended by female officers'. Hard to find title. LHD records five copies, including York Minster Library and the British Library.
