In blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine (boards just a little rounded and worn at spine tips). Faint library stamp on upper text block edge, cataloguing numbers on copyright page. The sixth volume of an eight volume set resulting from the largest county survey undertaken to date by the English Place-Name Society, this present volume deals with the place-names of Craven, with the upper valleys of the Aire and the Wharfe, and Bowland, extending through Ribblesdale and Lonsdale to the mountains of the far north-west of the Riding to the borders of Westmoreland. The principal towns are Keighley, Skipton, Settle and Sedbergh.
