First edition, first impression. [1944]. 192pp. In red cloth-covered boards with black lettering and details. (Boards are clean, square and bright, just slightly rounded at spine ends and corners). There's a previous owner's inscription on the front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket (heavily worn, rubbed, creased and chipped, portion of spine missing and minor loss on verso). The dust jacket is now protected in an archival quality mylar wrapper which is not adhere to the volume or the jacket. Eleanor Burford was one of several pen names used by the author Jean Plaidy. She also wrote as Victoria Holt and Philippa Carr.
