First English language edition. 248pp, colour plate frontispiece and numerous black and white illustrations in text. Bound in green leather with gilt rules and lettering. Boards are a little rubbed and worn, and heavily rubbed and chipped on spine. Previous owner's inscription on front free endpaper, dated 1960, with a picture of Bertha the Dredger - thought to be designed by Brunel and the oldest working dredger in the world - pasted in, else internally neat, clean and bright. Firmly bound. A complete account of Norwegian Viking Ships, drawing on archaeological finds in the country and contemporary historical resources, to give an account of the ships' historical significance and the everyday lives of the people who built them.
