The Pictorial History of the War was originally issued in weekly parts; this volume, part of a 26 volume series, contains the weekly issues covering the period 10th April 1940 to 11th June 1940. The first article in the volume reproduces Winston Churchill, then First Lord of the Admiralty, Statement to the House of Commons of11th April 1940 on the invasion of Norway and Denmark by Germany and the exploits of the Navy and Royal Air Force in the sea battle that followed. viii, 320pp. Copiously illustrated throughout, with 451 black and white reproductions, 16 special drawings and 10 specially drawn maps. Half bound in maroon morocco leather over maroon cloth boards with gilt lettering and decoration to spine. Maroon endpapers. Title page printed in red and black. (Boards are lightly worn with some minor scuffs, a little rubbed at edges, more markedly so around spine with some light scuffing, and marked). Gutter cracked between front endpapers and title page. Pages show signs of having been overly compressed in the past, small section of pages are bumped and creased over the lower leading corner. 4to.
