Volumes II & III only. 234pp. In black card covers with gilt titles, with original glassine wrappers. 16mo. Glassine wrappers are worn and a lightly chipped at spine ends. Text block edges a tad darkened. Internally neat, clean and bright. These volumes are from an historic edition of the Complete Works of the Marquis of Sade. Sade's works have always been controversial. Pauvert had already produced a clandestine edition in 1948 but it was this edition which gave rise to charges of outage against public morality and a court room trial in 1955-58, following which the edition was condemned to destruction.
