First edition, first printing (published in the USA, preceding the UK publication by a year). viii, 434pp, with coloured illustrations on endpapers. In blue cloth-covered boards with gilt motif on front and gilt lettering on spine. Boards are very gently rounded at corners, and bear some small paper scars where the dust jacket has attached to boards (likely from historic water damage), dusty top edge, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In its original, worn dust jacket, rubbed all round edges and heavily chipped on folds, some old water staining visible on verso, internally scarred an a little torn around base on spine.
