The Jolly Corner, first published in The English Review in 1908, is one of the masterpieces of James' later period; a ghost story in which Spencer Bolton returns to New York after an absence of 33 years, only to become convinced the empty house is occupied by his alter ego, the man he might have been if he had never left.
