First, and likely only, edition. 34pp. In black card covers, with red title label on front panel. 8vo. Card covers rubbed and creased at edges, scuffed and cracked at spine ends, shelf worn. The first leaf has a is creased along the long edge, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Battley was a life-long printer, working out of Clapham in South London; he was also a conscientious objector during the First World War and, latterly, and MP. His views on the art of printing were tempered by his experiences - both beautiful and practical. After a brief historical overview, this book has sections on The Alphabet, The Compositor, Distribution of Type, Printing Presses, Embossing and Relief Stamping, Blocks, Binding, Paper, Ink etc. A hard to find title.
