First edition, first printing. 294pp. Bound in blue cloth-covered boards with white titles front and spine. 12mo. Cloth moderately rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, spine sunned, a little faded at edges. Text block edges darkened. Hint of toning on endpapers. Previous owner's attractive bookplate on front free endpaper. In its original worn, creased and torn dust jacket. The jacket is in four pieces, with minor loss, and browned. Jacket now protected in a Mylar-style protected sleeve. Mackinlay Kantor (born Benjamin McKinlay Kantor) was an American journalist, screenwriter and novelist, writing more than thirty novels, several set during the American Civil War. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his 1955 novel, Andersonville.
