Volume I (of III) only. 292pp. Bound in decorated brown cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and black decorations on spine. 8vo. Boards are heavily worn, rubbed right through at edges, rounded on corners, scuffed, marked mottled on verso and a little loosened. Text block edges soft and spotted. Hinges cracked, endpapers mildly marked and stained. Front free endpaper partially detached and covered with previous owner's charming bookplate, indicating the volume once belonged to Jenifer and Tony Hayward of Calcutta, 1978 (Sir Anthony Hayward was the last British Chairman of the Indian Liquor manufacturer, Shaw Wallace, perhaps best remembered for launching the popular Haywards 5000 brand of beer; a leader of the British business community in India, where his family once held a license to distribute opium and ganja; he died in Sandwich, Kent, in 2011). Hint of age toning to pages which have occasional small and mild marks. A scarce, hard to find volume.
