1st edition, first printing. xii, 310pp. In blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. An ex-lending library book with light library markings (stamps on text block edges and front endpapers, lending sheet on rear endpaper, accession number stamped at foot of acknowledgment page). Cloth a little rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, residue of label removal over base of spine, white label removed from rear panel, else remarkably fresh, clean and bright throughout. A history of the first 150 years of Trinity House, incorporated by Henry VIII in 1514, which serves to protect seafarers and was influential in the development of early modern English shipping, with its statutory responsibility as a General Lighthouse Authority to deliver reliable, safe and cost-effective aids to navigation.
