Boards very slightly rounded on corners. Original leaflet from the publisher, giving details of Uncle Dick Wootton and his exploits in the southern states of America in the mid 19th century in cotton farming, as a wagoner, and fur trader, loosely laid in, together with an original, unused 'classics of the old west' ex libris bookplate. Wootton, who started out as a farmer became a venture capitalist, with his skills based in this knowledge of country and agricultural ways. A successful freighter, a stage-coach contractor, buffalo raiser and one time inn-keeper. He built his own toll road and made it pay. We learn the margins that gave the insider like Wootton the edge in that earliest of American enterprises. the winning of the West. A beautiful book
