First edition, first printing. 256pp, with a monochrome portrait plate frontispiece. In tan cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Signed and inscribed by Ernest Tennant on the front free endpaper, 'To Amy, with very best wishes from Ernest Tennant, Christmas1957'. 8vo. Boards very gently rounded at corners and spine ends. Hint of toning to endpapers. Tennant was merchant banker and industrialist who advocated for closer links between the UK and Germany and for greater international co-operation in the years between the two world wars. An intelligence officer in the first world war, Tennant was sent by the British Government to Germany in the months before the second world war to liaise with German industrialists etc to influence them towards peace. Hard to find volume.
