[1877] First edition, first printing. 226pp, frontispiece and four further full page monochrome illustrations. In original blue cloth-covered boards with decorations and gilt motif on front panel and gilt lettering on spine. Bevelled edges, All edges gilt. Elegant page decorations. 16mo. Boards worn, rubbed around edges, rounded on corners. Front hinge and first gutter cracked, making volume a little loose. Prize presentation plate, dated 1880, on front free endpaper. Heavily spotted, especially on endpapers and prelims. Slightly bowed.
