2378pp, [2]pp blank, eleven black and white photographic plates including frontispiece. Maroon cloth-covered boards; white titles on spine. 8vo. Lightly rubbed spine head. Top text block edge dusty, remaining edges starting to tan and just starting to fox. Endpapers starting to fox. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight, barring some very occasional foxing. Dust jacket has light shelf wear, chipping to edges.  It is not price clipped.

French criminologist Alphonse Bertillon (d.1914) developed the first system of physical measurements, photography and record-keeping for police to use in helping to identify criminals.
