Complete in one volume. xlviii, 872pp, with coloured maps (three of which fold-out) and tables. Fully bound in black leather with gilt motif on front panel, gilt titles on red spine label, five raised bands. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. 12mo. Leather a little rubbed at corners, joints and spine ends. One small mark on verso. Text block edges spotted. Front hinge cracked, without loosening. Prize presentation plate on front paste down, indicating the volume was awarded to K D Archer in 1908 as the Campbell Prize. Some spotting on first and last few leaves, faintly and occasionally throughout. Lovely, evocative volume with mild patina of use.
