Occasional further illustrations in text, decorative head and tail pieces, decorative initial caps. The list of subscribers is bound in at the end of the volume, differing from the usual collation. Bound in contemporary full brown leather, seven-panelled spine, with gilt decoration and red label with gilt titles. Text block edges sprayed red. Printed extensively in red and black. Small Elephant Folio (approximately 15.75 by 10 by 1.25 inches). . Boards are worn, rubbed and scuffed at edges with some markings and mild scratches, rubbed and rounded at corners. A few indentations on edges. Upper text block edge darkened. Replacement endpapers. Pages show a little light warping and occasional edge damage and some faint ans occasional spotting. Occasional manuscript corrections, neatly done. Early 18th century transcription of a the 12th century document, the Honour of Richmond, from the Cottonian Library (one of the three founding collections of the British Library). Gale (1672-1744), who edited this volume, was an antiquarian and sometime member of Parliament was known as a collector of manuscripts and held as one of the foremost scholars of his.
