First edition, first printing. xii, 260pp, sparsely illustrated. In black cloth-covered boards with silver lettering on spine. 8vo. A few smudges on the text block fore edge, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In its original, illustrated, glossy dust jacket, just a little bumped on extreme edges. Delane's War is an account of the four months between October 1854 and January 1855, during which the British Government and the army tried to silence and deride John Delane, editor of the Times Newspaper, for his coverage of the Crimean War, accusing him of treachery, deception and exaggeration. Delane remained steadfast in his editorial line and would be ignored. Eventually a dramatic debate took place in Parliament which brought about the largest ever defeat of a British Government in office.
