First edition, first impression. 184pp, with tissue-guards engraved frontispiece. In decorated cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Small 8vo. Boards a little rubbed on edges, panels appear faded. Hint of toning to endpapers, small pen mark on last page else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original paper dust jacket, bumped, rubbed and chipped at edges, perhaps a little faded, minor loss at spine head. A brief note, on Westminster Press letterhead, signed by the author's husband, Gerald Meynell, and dated April 1930, loosely laid in.
A classic fictionalised biography of Anna Magdalena Bach, wife of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Meynall (nee Moorhouse) wrote several novels with a musical theme, this being her best-known and most successful. Meynall married Gerald Tuke Meynall and was the niece of suffragist Alice Meynall.
