This is a scholarly work examining the anonymous 1605 letter to Lord Monteagle waring him not to attend the State Opening of Parliament on 5 November that year. The letter was a key factor in uncovering the Gunpowder Plot - the conspiracy to blow up the House of Lords and assassinate king James I. It analyses tehe handwriting and identifes the author as William Vavsour, an associate of Francis Tresham.
