First edition, first printing. 288pp, with over 100 wood engraved drawings by Brooke, including frontispiece and decorated title page, full page plate and in-text illustrations. Green decorated cloth-covered boards with tipped in colour illustration on front panel, black decorations front and spine, gilt and black titles. Decorated endpapers. 8vo. Cloth a little worn, gently rubbed at corners, spine tips and on joints, a few mild marks. Veru slightly cocked. Clean and bright internally but the gutter ahead of the half-title page is cracked, and there is a small scribble in the lower margin of p.7.
