First edition, presumably second state binding as black rather than the first state brown lettering on the cover. Charming illustrations by the author throughout. Grey cloth boards stamped with black lettering and decorations. 8vo. Cloth a little rubbed and bumped at corners and spine ends. Upper text block edges dust darkened. Bookplate of one Beatrice Gregan on front paste down. A little foxing and slight toning to first and last few leaves else internally neat, clean and tight.
Handsome set. The author's first book, a delightful novel that was an immediate success with readers.
