First edition. xxii, 326pp, profusely illustrated including tissue-guarding frontispiece. In blue cloth-covered boards bearing the publisher's art nouveau peacock gilt decorations. All edges gilt. Peacock design on endpapers. 12mo. Cloth rubbed and rounded at ends of a slightly dulled spine, a little rounded on corners, sligthly worn and mildly marked on verso. Internally a little page toning, tissue guard browned and chipped.
From Macmillan's series of illustrated novels called the Peacock edition; but only Thomas Love Peacock's works had the gilded peacock (designed by Albert Turbayne) on the front cover, and then only some of those (the rest had just the peacock patterns on the endpapers). Hard to find in this beautiful binding.
