1st thus (first edition with Hugh Thomson's illustrations). xvi, 342, [6]pp, with tissue-guarded frontispiece and 39 further full page illustrations, all by Hugh Thomson. Bound in deep red textures cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped lettering front and spine, fore and lower edges untrimmed. Boards a little rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, cloth has some uneven fading and sunned over spine. Previous owner's name flamboyantly inked on front free endpaper. Some mild toning and spotting on endpapers and tissue guard, occasional minor damage to page edges else internally clean, neat and bright. Firmly bound.
