Quarter bound in buckram over blue cloth, with gilt titles and decorations to spine. 896pp plus sections of fascinating contemporary adverts. With 20 colour plate illustrations and a further 300 illustrations. Boards clean and strong with gentle rubbing at corners and spine ends, titles and decorations strong and bright. Internally neat and clean, firmly bound, with previous owner's name on fly leaf and just a little page aging. In its (now very hard to find) illustrated dust jacket (fragile, chipped at all edges, twice cracked on spine, verso almost detached with chipping loss all round edges). Very hard to find editions this old of Mrs Beeton's books with the original dust jackets. Jacket fitted with archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong its life. It is not adhered to the book or to the jacket. As well as some 3000 practical recipes there are sections on labour saving devices, household work, servant's duties, laundry work, marketing, renovations, carving and trussing, the art of 'using up', table decorations, table napkins, meals and menus, beverages etc.
